Welcome to the first Bala Vihar class for 8th grade 2023-2024 year.
This is one of the bigger classes! There was a lot of excitement in the students and we (teachers) were eager to meet the students.
We did mutual introductions between teachers and students. The topic for this class is symbolism in Hinduism and Yato Dharma Tato Jayah. We are going to discuss this with stories and personalities from the Mahabharata. We then discussed the format of how we will do our classes:
Prayers - we will have a set of prayers and we will tag students to say those

Connect with contemporary topics

We covered symbolism about Lord Ganesha. We discussed his form, his ears and his ride - the mouse, etc. The class is interactive and there was a lot of conversation about these.
For icebreakers, we did a quiz on Mahabharata. There were 9 teams with 2 in each team. (one team had 3). The questions were a little on the difficult side but the students did quite well. We had discussions on each of them when the parents joined. The discussions on each question continued till the end.
