Hari Om parents,
We began class with 3 Oms, Om Sahanavavathu, Sarvamangalamangalye and Mahalakshmi Ashtakam.
We introduced the 1st shloka in the Mahishasuramardhini stotram. With Diwali around the corner, we had a short discussion on why we celebrate Diwali and what traditions we have in our families. We went around stating our favorite one.
We moved on to India Sacred Land.
We went in a brief geography lesson discussing the characteristics of a peninsula and describing the various physical features of India. We drew & discussed on the whiteboard, along with a handout for more clarity. The kids were amazed by the vastness and varied landscape across the country.
Once the kids got the lay of the land, we went on to discuss exactly what attracted trade. We talked about cash crops, cheap labor, lack of functional/organized government and the various aspects that led to the British rule.
We then moved into the timeline of freedom struggle and had a discussion about some major freedom fighters. The kids have been asked to find out more details of freedom fighters from thier own family home town areas.
The class went off on a tangent and sort of ended up on the subject of cricket! (So we went of on a brief discussion of how many teams there would be if india had NOT been partitioned). We talked about the 60 year time frame and the timeline of partition of India.
We did a states of India word search activity. We joined all classes in the prayer hall for Aarathi and pledge.
