Class Updates

 

1. We started the class with chanting OM three times and opening prayer(Dhyana Sloka - Om Sahana Vavatu)

2. Ganesha Pancharatnam - Kids practiced all verses from Ganesha Pancharatnam

3. Mahabharata 

 

1.       Sabha parva

        1. Mayasura built a palace of illusions for the Pandavas.
        2. In order for Yudhisthira to be accepted as emperor of Indraprastha, he was requested to perform Rajasuya yagna.
        3. Jarasandha
          1. Krsna advised the pandavas to kill Jarasandha as Jarasandha has captured one hundred kings and hence by releasing those kings, they will support and participate in Rajasuya yagna.
          2. Jarasandha was born split into two vertical halves and he was joined by a demoness named Jara.
          3. Krsna, Bhima and Arjuna went to meet Jarasandha. 
          4. Fight ensued between Bhima and Jarasandha for many hours.
          5. Bhima split Jarasandha into two halves and threw the pieces. The pieces joined together. 
          6. With the advice of Krsna, Bhima was able to kill Jarasandha by throwing the split pieces in opposite directions.
          7. The captured kings were released.
        4. Shishupala
          1. Shishupala was the cousin brother of Krsna and had extra arms and third eye when he was born
          2. When Krsna touched the child, the extra arms and third eye disappeared. It was destined that Krsna will kill Shishupala
          3. Shishupala's mother requested Krsna not to kill him. Krsna promised her that he will tolerate one hundred mistakes of Shishupala, but will kill him if he exceeds that count.
          4. During the Rajasuya yagna, Shishupala insulted Krsna and exceeded the count of one hundred mistakes.
          5. Krsna kills Shishupala
        5. Story of Jaya and Vijaya
          1. Jaya and Vijaya were the guards of Vaikuntha (abode of Lord Vishnu).
          2. Because Jaya and Vijaya insulted the four Kumaras, they were cursed to be born as humans.
          3. Jaya and Vijaya in order to hasten their return to Vaikuntam, they requested Vishnu to make them demons in their three births
          4. In first birth, Jaya and Vijaya were born as Hiranyaksha (of Varaha avatar) and Hiranyakshipu (of Narasimha avatar) and got killed by avatars of Lord Vishnu
          5. In second birth, they were born as Ravana and Kumbhakarna and got killed by Lord Rama (avatar of Vishnu)
          6. In third birth, they were born as Shishupala and Dantavakra.
        6. Insult of Duryodhana
          1. Duryodhana, when attending the Rajasuya yagna, gets lost in the palace and falls into a pool of water and gets laughed at.
          2. He became furious and wanted to take revenge on the Pandavas.

4. Story of Saint – Saint Kabir

  •  Saint Kabir was a wise poet who lived in India around 600 years ago. He was born in Varanasi and grew up in a weaver's family.
  •  Kabir believed in unity among people of different religions. He used his poetry to emphasize the common thread of love and devotion running through Hinduism and Islam.
  • Kabir conveyed his teachings through simple and relatable language in the form of short verses called "dohas."
  • He preached equality among all individuals, irrespective of their caste or social status. His dohas encouraged people to treat everyone with respect and kindness.
  • Kabir stressed the importance of a direct and sincere connection with the divine, emphasizing devotion over unnecessary rituals and ceremonies.
  • He described God as formless and beyond human comprehension, encouraging people to focus on a personal and spiritual connection rather than on external religious practices.
  • Kabir's wisdom transcends time and religious boundaries. His dohas continue to inspire people globally, teaching valuable lessons about love, humility, and the pursuit of a meaningful spiritual life.
