Naama ramayanam- We learned the first six lines from the yudhdha kaanda, and the meanings along.
Class presentation homework- For our class presentation, other than the group song, there will also be a short skit. Today we worked on a few possible real-life situation, where either they "take it to act on: or simply ignore". Either way, they need to be ready with both the scripts that they would showcase.
The students can write their scripts, discussing with their friends and send one final copy to sunamgr7@chinmayavrindavan.org e-mail.
Ramayanam (War sequence with Kumbhakarna and Indrajith)
Kumbhakarna was fearsome in war. He picked up all the vanaras like toys and flung them to their death.
He picked up Sugriva and held him captive. This disheartened the vanara army but Hanuman was confident that Sugriva would escape. Sugriva attacked Kumbhakarna with his nails and teeth and escaped. Rama attacked Kumbhakarna - he cut off his legs, but still Kumbhakarna attacked. He cut off his hands, but still Kumbhakarna attacked. Finally he cut off his head. The news of Kumbhakarna's death was a huge blow to Ravana. His defenses were rapidly being taken out. His son Indrajit now prepared to go to war
Indrajit went to war with great gusto and pride, confident he could beat Rama and his army. He started with psychological warfare, creating a maya Sita and making a show of her being beheaded. Rama was initially distraught, but Vibhishana quickly consoled him, saying the focus must be on stopping Indrajit from finishing his Nikumbila yagna and not on these magical distractions. Lakshmana took Rama's blessings and went to fight Indrajit. Indrajit and Lakshmana fought fiercely, and initially Lakshmana was rendered unconscious by the Shakthi astra. Jambavan instructed Hanuman to bring Sanjeevani herbs to revive him. Hanuman flew over the mountain where the herbs were, but unable to find the specified herbs, uprooted and brought the whole mountain over! Everyone praised his quick thinking and superior strength. The revived Lakshmana went back into battle and killed Indrajit. This was a huge blow to Ravana. Now left with none of his famed warriors, family or otherwise, he went to battle with Rama.
Skit form of story narrated. The above both sequences were narrated in a skit form. Kumbhakarna was Aditi K, Ravana and narrator was Vidhya B, Sugriva was Sahana S, Middle narrator was Harisanker A, Indrajith and Jhambhav was Hrishan R, Vibhisan was Rohan and lakshman was Aadi A.
They all did a fine job with expressive tones and modulation.
Gita Time- we learned verse numbers 19, 20 & 21 from chapter 4.
Students are asked to bring their musical instruments every class until our show in April.
